ANNAPOLIS, MD (April 23, 2009) – Governor Martin O’Malley issued the following statement after JetBlue Airways announced plans this morning to provide air service between Boston and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport:
“JetBlue is a quality addition to the family of airlines operating at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport. The airline’s decision to fly out of BWI Marshall once again validates the investments we have made to create a first-class airport that is Maryland’s gateway to the world.
“This new service is great news for business and leisure travelers in Maryland and the entire National Capital region. JetBlue Airways is an excellent low-cost airline that offers an outstanding travel product.
“The addition of JetBlue Airways will further bolster BWI Marshall’s position as the leading low cost carrier airport in the region. BWI Marshall is a good fit for JetBlue; it’s an airport with low costs and low delays, as well as excellent access, parking, and terminal facilities. We look forward to working with JetBlue to grow their service.
“BWI Marshall Airport is an important transportation and economic resource for the State of Maryland. We will continue to work with airline partners to offer excellent customer service and positive travel experiences for residents, businesses, and visitors.”
