“We are here today to celebrate ten years of extraordinary service at BWI Marshall Airport,” said Lt. Governor Brown. “The USO staff and volunteers work with the entire airport community to support military service members and family who travel through here each day.”
BWI Marshall Airport continues to serve as a major gateway for military service members departing to and returning from military assignments overseas. The State of Maryland, through the Maryland Aviation Administration, spent $1.1 million to design, build, and furnish the USO International Gateway Lounge. The 5,000 square foot USO at BWI Marshall Airport is among the largest, and most active, USO facilities in the world. Three staff members and more than 200 volunteers give their time and energy to support the USO International Gateway Lounge, which is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Elaine Rogers, USO-Metro president said, “At USO-Metro, we have the immense honor of serving those who serve, and their families, every day. We also have the privilege of working with hundreds of truly remarkable volunteers from all walks of life who salute our nation’s heroes and their families, each and every day, by giving their time and spirit to our organization.”
“For ten years, BWI Marshall Airport has been pleased to support the USO in its mission on behalf of the U.S. military,” said Maryland Deputy Transportation Secretary Harold M. Bartlett. “We are committed to working with the USO to provide an outstanding environment for our traveling military service members.”
