Youth Art Gallery

Youth Art Gallery The Youth Art Gallery at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport opened in November 2005. It is located in the Children’s Play Area adjacent to the Observation Gallery in Concourse B. Exhibits, which are changed semi-annually, are coordinated through a partnership of the Maryland Aviation Administration and the Maryland Art Education Association (MAEA).

The current exhibit features work by students in Grade Pre-Kindergarden to Grade 5. The display of 28 artworks features paintings and drawings from elementary students representing nine counties and the City of Baltimore. All 24 public school systems in Maryland were invited to submit artwork from their elementary school students.

The exhibit highlights the high quality of art education throughout the State of Maryland. Curriculum in all school systems aligns to the Maryland State Department of Education Essential Learner Outcomes for the Visual Arts. The Outcomes include:

· Perceiving, performing and responding – aesthetic education
· Historical, cultural and social context
· Creative expression and production
· Aesthetic criticism

The MAEA is an organization of over 400 art educators throughout the State of Maryland. The purpose of the organization is to encourage, strengthen and promote the role of the visual arts in education by: promoting quality instruction in visual arts education conducted by certified art teachers; encouraging study of art teaching; improving the conditions of art teaching; and encouraging and conducting research in art education.
