Services for the Disabled

TDD Phones for the Hearing Impaired

There are public telephones equipped with TDD devices throughout the airport. Direct passengers to these machines first when a TDD is requested. There are also TDD phones at Pier C Information desk and the Welcome Center desk. They are kept in the drawer and should be taken out to use when a customer requests the use of one. The machine is placed on the counter, the plug goes into the outlet and the wall, and then the receiver from our phone is placed onto the TDD machine.

Visual Paging for the Hearing Impaired

Visual paging monitors are available at the lower and upper levels at all Piers. Contact Communications to display a message. The message will be displayed on the screens for the hearing impaired passengers.

Lift-Equipped Buses

All of the shuttle service to the parking lots and to the railroad station can be provided by lift-equipped buses. First Transit (Operator of the shuttle bus service) at 410-684-3346 to request a wheelchair accessible shuttle bus. It usually takes a few minutes for them to send a specially requested bus.

Unisex Bathrooms

These bathrooms are especially equipped for people with disabilities. It is possible for a person with a disability to use them with or without an attendant. They are especially useful if a person with a disability is traveling with an attendant of a different sex as the room may be used by one person/group at a time. The only unisex bathroom before security is located behind the pier D ticket counters.

Wheelchair Service

Wheelchairs can be obtained with or without a skycap by contacting one of the skycaps or an agent. You can call communications and have them page a skycap with a wheelchair from the traveler's airline.

Parking

Handicapped parking is available in all BWI Parking Facilities.
