Governor O’Malley Welcomes New Air Service Between Hagerstown and BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport

Cape Air to provide four daily roundtrip flights between two Maryland airports

BWI AIRPORT, MD (January 06, 2009) - Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley today applauded the selection of Cape Air to provide essential air service (EAS) between Hagerstown Regional Airport (HGR) and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. The U.S. Department of Transportation last week approved the EAS application for Cape Air to provide this new service. Cape Air was also selected to provide similar service between Lancaster, Pennsylvania and BWI Marshall.

“This new regional air service will provide convenient, efficient access to BWI Marshall Airport for more Maryland residents and businesses,” said Governor O’Malley. “Cape Air will directly link Hagerstown and Western Maryland to BWI Marshall, Maryland’s gateway to the world. And this service will bring greater economic opportunity directly to Western Maryland.”

Under the approved EAS application, Cape Air will provide four daily nonstop round trips between HGR and BWI Marshall. The airline will utilize its Cessna 402 aircraft for the service, which offer seating for 9 passengers per flight.

The Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) worked with Cape Air and HGR to support the EAS application process. MAA Executive Director Timothy L. Campbell said, “Cape Air is an excellent airline with a good record of reliable service. We look forward to working with Cape Air to connect Hagerstown and BWI Marshall.”
