BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport Introduces Twitter Service

New Tool Provides Airport Information, Status Updates

BWI AIRPORT, MD (March 04, 2009) - Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport has established a Twitter account to provide airport status reports and travel information on travelers’ portable electronic devices.

“Modern travelers are sophisticated and tech savvy,” said Timothy L. Campbell, Executive Director of the Maryland Aviation Administration. “Twitter is another tool that will allow BWI Marshall Airport to provide timely information to travelers.”

Users may register as BWI Marshall Airport “followers” directly at twitter.com/BWI_Airport or use the BWI Marshall Airport website, www.BWIairport.com. Followers will receive “tweets,” or brief text messages, that provide status updates, flight information, parking availability, and other useful Airport information.

Twitter is a method of reaching out to the public with information in a quick, efficient manner. The new BWI Marshall Airport Twitter tool was useful during the winter weather event this week that impacted much of the eastern United States. The Airport was able to deliver up-to-the-minute, useful information about weather conditions and flight delays.
