BWI On-Time Rate 2nd-Highest in U.S.
Baltimore Sun - July 8, 2008
Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport had the second-highest on-time arrival rate in May of the nation's 32 busiest airports, according to data released yesterday by the Department of Transportation. BWI, where arriving flights were on time an average of 86.7 percent of the time in May, ranked second to Salt Lake City, where flights were on-time 88.7 percent of the time.
TSA is Trying to Reduce the Hassle Factor
After unveiling the new Checkpoint Evolution prototype at Baltimore-Washington International Airport, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Michael Chertoff announced additional improvements aimed at strengthening aviation security while decreasing the hassle factor for travelers. Among the key improvements, DHS is providing airlines more flexibility to allow passengers to check in remotely who have been unable to do so because they have a name similar to someone on a watch list.
Additionally, DHS is providing greater clarity on the types of identification that will be accepted at checkpoints in the U.S. Beginning May 26, federal or state-issued photo ID will be accepted if it contains: name, date of birth, gender, expiration date and a tamper-resistant feature. Standardizing the list of accepted documents better aligns TSA with other DHS components and REAL ID benchmarks.

BWI Marshall Adds Real-Time Flight Tracker and Weather Displays
Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport has installed several flight tracker and weather display monitors throughout the passenger terminal. The monitors, located alongside traditional airport flight information display systems (FIDS), provide a real-time, visual image of air traffic and weather conditions. Customers can use the new technology to see up-the-minute flight and weather information.
The new monitors present maps and up-to-the-minute graphical information including the airline and the flight number for commercial flights arriving and departing BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport. Arriving flights are shown in red, while departures appear blue. Current U.S. weather radar information is also displayed on the monitors, adjacent to the flight data. The flight tracker and weather information are important tools for the more than 20 million annual passengers traveling through BWI Marshall Airport.
